Moon Film Review: If Beale Street Could Talk

Your Cultural Correspondent (Film) thinks that 'If Beale Street could talk' it would surely ask, 'What on Earth have I done to deserve this film?' swiftly followed by 'Couldn't my story have been told in a more engrossing and less boring way?' To which, of course, the answers would be 'We don't know' and 'Yes and yes'.

For, dear readers, Your Cultural Correspondent (Film) found the film even slower than The Prime Minister's understanding of freedom of movement and given what seemed to be the blank, staring looks on the faces of the leads for most of the time was not able to summon up much 'sto con loro' sentiment for them. Which is a great shame because the disgraceful things that the people of Beale Street went through merits telling, but in a better way. Indeed in a way that mirrors the best thing in the entire film: the all too fleeting music of Miss Nina Simone.
