Wooden Arms on The Moon

Wooden Arms are "a genre-fluid contemporary quintet" from Norwich in Brexshit Blighty. They first featured on The Moon when the wonderful False Start featured on A Best of 2014

False Start first appeared on there debut 6 track EP which has since disappeared from streaming services. It reappeared, along with the track Noah, on Tide their second 6 track EP, but sadly the 4 other tracks from the debut EP are still unavailable. In early October this year they finally released their debut album and, as both Tide and it are available via Bandcamp, below is a Playmoss playlist combining both.

As with their 2014 releases, it did take me a bit of time to get into the new LP. The sound is less folky and more cinematic and I can best describe it as The Tindersticks doing an album of Neil Hannon of The Divine Comedy's more serious songs backed by a brilliant string section arranged by George Martin. On a couple of tracks the strings rather than the song are the highlight, but it all sounds marvellous.
